Afternoon all!

I'm back from my trip to Amsterdam and I'm having some major holiday blues! - So I thought I would do a post on a round up of my trip, what I did, what I ate and well, how much I exercised (yes really!).

So lets start off with what I did, shall we?

Well, I went to Amsterdam with an open mind, and I can say with hand on heart it is definitely an eye-opening experience and I wouldn't of changed it for the world!

I was accompanied by Lucy and both of us aren't massive on art, so we decided to give the art museums a miss on this occasion, we were more interested in what else Amsterdam had to offer!

On a boat trip round the canals of Amsterdam
One of the main highlights of Amsterdam for me was definitely the Red Light District, I didn't get many photos of this area however, as you may probably know, the Red Light District is the famous prostitution sector of Amsterdam and is home to many windows showcasing what is to be on offer!

What we did do on the Red Light District however, was take a boat trip on the canals of Amsterdam, which gives you the chance to see the sights from a different angle! Plus there's a guide and drinks on board, for only 15 euros (not including drinks) what's not to love?

Also on the Red Light District, check out Red Light Secrets, which is the Museum of Prostitution, It was generally really interesting and if you go to one of the many Tickets and Tours shops around the city, you can get a cheaper ticket for 8 euros rather than the standard 10 euros on the door! - Best thing is that it isn't sleezy, it's really interesting, informative and fun! It even had a confessions wall/booth and a fun photo booth, which added a really fun twist to the subject!

Another similar museum which ypu have probably all heard of is the Sex Museum which is on the main street down from Centraal Station, I have a couple of photos from my trip there but I won't share them as they are probably a tad rude, but if you're planning to go, here's the location, incredibly easy to get to and its only 4 euros on the door:

The other museum we went to and I believe is a definite must see:

Now unfortunately, you aren't allowed to take any photos in the actual museum, so I don't have anything of the inside, but it's the actual annexe that Anne Frank and her family hid in during the war and it's packed full of information of Anne Frank, her diary, her family and helpers and the holocaust, it's incredibly interesting and quite moving in parts, I booked online before we flew, but you can also get discount tickets at different Tickets and Tours stops, so check it out!
It's pre-bookings only between 9am-3:30pm, after that until closing time, it's walk in.

Now enough of the museums, as interesting as they were, we had a great time doing some other stuff too!

On the first night we went to the XtraCold Ice Bar, which as you probably guessed, is a bar made completely of ice! - We bought the "Cool Arrangement" which is 24 euros per person (Around £19) for entry to the ice bar, a welcome drink in the regular bar, 2 drinks/shots in the ice bar and a printed photo of the experience! Which we both thought was brilliant!

We booked our tickets online before we flew out to Amsterdam but you can get the same arrangement for 18 euros from the Tours and Ticket shops! - so I would definitely recommend that you do that if you're planning on going, the Ice Bar is also themed on the seven seas so you get the full experience with actors and bartenders, it's fantastic and would highly recommend it to any of you!

Also one of the great things about Amsterdam is all the unique shops you can get:

I can't remember what the cake shop is called in the top left (sorry!) but it's just along from Dam Square and their Red Velvet Macaroons were gorgeous! Top right was breakfast from the cafe downstairs from our accommodation, which was lovely, was from Oma Letje in Bullewijk, just outside the metro station. Then the Amsterdam Duck store, which is (as you probably guessed) just full of different themed rubber ducks, definitely a novelty! And on the outskirts of the Red Light District is Condomerie ! The first novelty condom specialist shop, which is a must see!

Then onto what I hope is the most impressive part (Again, I hope!) we walked around Amsterdam ALOT, and over the three days we were there we walked around 33 miles and averaged over 20,000 steps each day!

We also hired bikes and cycled over 25 miles across 2 days around Amsterdam!

So racked up some serious exercise points too!

We hired our bikes for 12.50 for 24 hours from here:

If you ever get the chance to visit Amsterdam, take it! It's an interesting, eye-opening and beautiful city! I have major holiday blues and I really want to go back someday.

That's all for now, until next time.
